SAN FRANCISCO (Oct. 24, 2019) – Michael Davies, MD, a third year resident in the UCSF Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the Feeley-Liu Lab, received the Best Basic Science Paper award at this year’s Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) California Regional Research Symposium that was held yesterday at UCSF.

Dr. Davies’s paper is entitled “Fibro-Adipogenic Progenitors from the Rotator Cuff Display the Highest Concentration, Proliferative Capacity, and Adipogenic Differentiation Among Different Muscle Groups in Mice.

“Congratulations to Dr. Davies for winning best basic science paper,” said Dr. Brian Feeley, MD, a mentor to Dr. Davies.  “His research on muscle stem cells has shed tremendous light on the importance of evaluating how stem cells in different muscles are capable of driving regeneration in our lab’s research on muscle tissue quality and its impact on common musculoskeletal problems.”
