The Neer Award, presented by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons association, is the highest academic distinction is shoulder and elbow surgery. Luke Sang has been awarded the 2027 Neer Award for his paper Selective G9a/GLP inhibition reprograms human fibro-adipogenic progenitors toward myogenic differentiation and improves muscle quality after rotator cuff tear.
In this paper, Luke highlights how selective G9a/GLP inhibition with A-366 reduces H3K9me2 and reprograms human fibro-adipogenic progenitors (FAPs) toward myogenic differentiation. In mouse models of rotator cuff tear (including aged mice and hFAP xenotransplantation) this reprogramming attenuates muscle atrophy and fibrosis after injury. These findings identify G9a/GLP-mediated H3K9 dimethylation as a conserved, targetable pathway for improving muscle quality following rotator cuff tears.
